Excellent - Liam O'Hara - 29 October 2012
I've now been using the product for around two months. I trialed it in 6 enclosures with 6 different species. I was so impressed I now use it in all of my 30 vivariums and tubs.
I've found the product to be heat retentive, great value for money, soft, easily burrowed through, zero-odour, very absorptive and looks great in naturalistic enclosures. One of my favourite points is that is has never been introduced into a high risk environment regarding reptile mites. Substrates stored in reptile shops are often the source of these pests.
At less than half the cost of aspen by weight, and much less by volume, I love the value for money this product offers.
I've even sprayed the substrate when needed and provided it doesn't become wet it copes well with an above normal humidity level - because of this all my animals have sloughed on this substrate with no issues.
The customer service is second-to-none and every little inquiry I had regarding this product has been answered swiftly and honestly and their willingness to please makes this a great company to deal with.
I recommend this to all snake owners.
Amazing - Matthew Cunnelly - 24 January 2013
Just received my order and firstly the delivery was spot on, less than 24 hours after paying and it was here. I spent the morning emptying out all of my snakes vivariums, cleaned all the old substrate out and this is now in with all of my snakes.
I have managed to fill three vivariums - a 6ft and two 3ft - at around 1.5 inches deep substrate in each and I still have more than half of the bale left to use next time. I was using beech chips previously and I think this looks much nicer and obviously the price is amazingly cheaper than the chips were.
I can't think of any faults with it and I'm sure my heavier bodied snakes will prefer to be on this nice soft substrate rather than pointy wood chips! Thanks a lot and I will definitely be buying more when I need it.
Great product - Trevor Grant - 11 December 2012
I bought a bale of it and it done twice as many vivs as I thought it would and it's a great product highly recomended won't use anything else now, buy this product u won't be disappointed.
I'm converted! - Lee Yates - 11 April 2013
I took the plunge and ordered the 17KG/220 litre bale of Repticard, which arrived promptly today.
I have to say I'm hugely impressed. After filling three 64 litre RUBs I still haven't even dented the top layer of the bale. If I didn't expand my collection this year (yeah, right!) I'd easily have over 12 months of substrate for 13.99.
Previously, I was paying almost that much for a single 'large' bag of aspen EVERY time I changed the vivs' substrate! Now I've got infinitely more substrate changes left in the barely-dented bale of Repticard for the same money. Great!!
I have to confess I'm pleasantly surprised. It's WAY better looking, softer, easier to work with AND cheaper than aspen. I'm surprised at how natural it looks, and the snakes love it! It's already had a full on dose of Retic pee and poo (WHY do they wait for a substrate change and viv clean to empty out??)... It absorbed things great, and was very easy to spot clean without leaving messy substrate behind.
The only down side (and I'm nit-picking) is that every few handfuls I took out there were un-shredded pieces of card that were about palm-sized. They were still only micro-thin though and took barely a second to tear to match the rest of the bale. Occasionally I found a shiny piece of coated black or white plastic which is unfortunate, but they were easily binned off as the RUBs were changed and there were literally only two of them.
Overall I'm giving this a 10/10 and won't be using any other s
Excellent substrate for degus - Peter Thurgood - 04 February 2015
Yeah I realise degus are rodents not reptiles, but having used this product for a considerable time now I think it's possibly the best substrate for their cages on the market for the price.
I've mentioned it to several other degu owners and I believe at least several are now using it without problems.
(It's a pity the twin packs are no longer available though).
Repti-Card Review! - Dave - 30 October 2012
With regards to how the repti-card has worked for reptiles I have to say I'm really pleasantly pleased with how effective it has been as a substrate for many different species of snake.
The repti-card looks great, hides foul odours really well, doesn't mould under moist conditions and is all around great value for money! (I filled 11 snakes housing and barely used half the bag! and some of these are pretty big vivariums!).
I was also really happy to find a bedding that can be used on multiple species of snake. I'm currently keeping Boa Constrictors, Burmese Pythons, King Snakes, Western Hognoses and even Brazilian Rainbow boas on Repti-card and all are doing great and have all shed perfectly.
In terms of pictures/videos I'll send some your way once I've managed to get my higher quality camera going.
Thanks for the great product!
Great for degus (rodents), not just reptiles - Karen - 20 August 2017
I know lots of degu owners use this product. It's great value for money, low allergen, looks natural in their enclosures & doesn't smell. Easy to clean out. Customer service is excellent, always delivered promptly.
Repti-card - rachael - 24 January 2014
Love the stuff! Its nice to look at it doesn't smell, doesn't go mouldy, I find it easy to spot clean and my snakes enjoy burrowing in it. And it lasts ages :)
Not using again! - Will - 19 April 2013
Initially I was impressed with repti-card in terms of value for money.
When I got it I did find the remains of waxed based paper in my mix but didn't think to much of it, other than it was a little annoying removing it.
About 1/4 of my way into the mix I found traces of a shredded work invoice or similar type document.
After sending an email enquiring about this and the 100% unused cardboard I got the reply;
"We also shred paper in the same shredder and sometimes after change over there can be a little bit of paper in the first few bales as it is impossible to completely clean the shredder."
This to me is not 100% new cardboard and I am now moving back to Exo-terra plantation soil for my 14 snakes. Though more expensive I have found it looks better, smells less and better when snakes inevitably spill some water.
